COMPOSITION FOR ELECTRIC GUITAR AND LIVE ELECTRONICS // 2009
südhaft I-III
E-Guitar: Virginia Arancio
This piece plays with the similarity between long guitar harmonics and raw sine waves.
The result is a spatial and sculptural collage which contrasts sound with silence.
The guitar is reduced to a ‚generator’, producing continuous sound textures. These textures are
controlled by an electronic switch which allows the sound pass at certain times. This ‚switching
sound’ creates rhythmic patterns.
In the third movement, only a few of these sounds remain – will the sculpture stay when most
of the material has gone?
The piece is about the relationship between progression and stagnation, man and machine.
