CONCERTANTE INSTALLATION WITH KATRYN HASLER, VIOLIN // 2009
nordhoch
Concertante installation for violin, mechanized zither
and electronics.
Duration: 14'06" min
Violin: Katryn Hasler
Perception of time begins to shift and alter and it is in a standstill like a stone
in nature. Like the process of making a sculpture the music begins to chisel away and
shapes the material; leaving only a delicate sculpture to remain. Movement begings there,
which never ends.
Nordhoch is a composition reflecting not only different time perception but also
convention of traditional performance. The violinist is a virtually motionless 'object'
while the mechanized, self-moving zither is the primary protagonist. Slowly the borders
are broken between progression and stagnation, movement and stoppage and between
man and machine.
