7 HOUR INSTALLATIVE SOUND PERFORMANCE // 2010

BRUCHSTÜCKE VON BLAU

Virginia Arancio – guitars, voice, performance
Marcel Saegesser – composition, electronics

A Collage of sound, text and installation elements, which mirrors the fragmentated perception in an urban space. BRUCHSTÜCKE VON BLAU consists of five parts. The order and the duration of each part is decided in real-time by the computer itself through a random algorithm. The performer is guided by an in-ear monitoring – not hearable for the audience – to the following station. These parts have durations between 5 and 13 minutes. This sound performance is inspired by towns – towns as collections of excitements or even sensory overaload. Fragments of the Rome diary of Rolf Dieter Brinkmann pick the subject ‘town’ in their own way up and complete the performance. BRUCHSTÜCKE VON BLAU is creating poetic space for associations which makes everything possible.

BRUCHSTÜCK I
Piece for electric guitar and electronics which is based on the harmonic series and which uses mainly harmonics sounds of the guitar.

BRUCHSTÜCK II
Canon for classical guitar and loop station, consisting of 16 layers. Each time when Bruchstück II is chosen by the computer, the guitarist plays the next layer into the loop station. Thereby, this canon gets more and more dense during these 7 hours.

BRUCHSTÜCK III
Groove for electric guitar and electronics, made out of polyrhythmic structures which are based on prime number relations.

BRUCHSTÜCK IV
Installation with the performer, who speaks at certain from the computer defined moments phrases from the Rome diary by Brinkmann into the microphone. In addition a hanging acoustic guitar, equipped with an exciter (bass speaker), is vibrating.

BRUCHSTÜCK V
Installation with three hanging guitars with electric bows (electro magnets) that bring one string on each instrument to continuous vibration. Further, prerecorded text fragments, put in an always changing order and spatialization, enrich Bruchstück V.
