COMPOSITION & SOUND DESIGN FOR ANIMATION FILM // 2008
baba yaga
Baba Yaga is a character of the slawic mythology, who is very well known
in Eastern Europe.
In Maryna Shchipak's movie, she transports this traditional character into modern times.
This film can be interpreted as a parody of an old Russian fairy tale, because it's theme
is based on the contrast between traditional and modern elements.
The music is primarily based on conventional children melodies. Throughout the film the
music is being transformed into an absurd dreamlike distortion.
The movie was chosen in Stuttgart (2008) as best animation film
at
Filmschau Baden-Württemberg
and won a prize in Santiago (2009) at the
Festival
Internacional de Animación.
Baba Yaga has been showed in:
